A real production route for keeping pattern, colour and dimensions aligned on a fabric that changes whenever moisture, heat or tension changes.

The material problem

The project used viscose–spandex jersey: soft, fluid and elastic, but unusually sensitive to moisture, heat and tension. Small changes at one stage could reappear later as barre, width change, print distortion or uneven colour.

Stabilize before printing

The route began with consistent yarn and fabric batches, controlled knitting conditions, semi-bleaching and carefully judged pre-setting. Curled selvedges were removed so the fabric could enter printing flat rather than under forced tension.

Compensate in the pattern

The artwork could not simply be printed at its final nominal size. Pattern scaling and the printer’s low-tension transport were used together to anticipate later dimensional change without stretching the elastane during printing.

Control fixation and washing

Steaming fixed the reactive colour, while washing removed floating dye. Because wet viscose is fragile, the team controlled handling, tension and surface contact through both stages instead of treating them as routine finishing.

Confirm after the fabric settles

Final colour and dimensions were reviewed after cooling and relaxation. The project produced a repeatable risk-control route covering batch consistency, flat feeding, low tension, shrinkage compensation and multi-stage colour approval.
